Selecting The Best Quadrajet Core

The best quadrajet core, if possible, is the one you already have. Finding another core candidate isn't that hard, but you never know for sure what kind of problems you are getting.

Quadrajets produced in 1976 and later are your best core candidate. These have gone through most of the modifications and engineering updates. Of course you want to look for one that has the fuel feed inlet on the same side as yours. Either the front, or side. The linkage is another consideration, but the later model quadrajets are usually very accommodating.

Quadrejets that came from a mass re builder may not be the best candidate. These were often modified to fit more than one application.

Casting numbers starting with 1705 were produced from 1976-1979.

Having problems with your Rochester 2GC choke? Everything seems to be set correctly, but the choke isn't opening when it should. If your choke is the type that sits in the manifold, then it is possible that your manifold is clogged around the choke thus not allowing the choke to heat up.

Mike’s Notes

  • The Rochester 4GC may come with two different needle & seat gaskets. One is thicker than the other. Float too low? Use the thicker gasket. Too high? Use the thinner gasket.
  • Spray the seat with silicon spray lubricant.
